Sarouk Style HM (handmade )
Made in the USA - NYNY most likely
SILK - Hemp
ND (natural dyed )
This is an extremely rare rug that was in a home owned by the same family for four generations Recently the last family member passed away and this rug was stored in the Attic with 40 pounds of dirt.
Most of these rugs have not survived too date because they are so fragile and were disposed of because they became out of style. This is because the modern Persian, Indian or Chinese handmade wool cotton rug is much heavier; can be vacuumed and can take tremendous amount of wear and tear
Adding to its Rarity after World War 1 hemp also referred to as jute production, was made illegal in the United States. The hemp industry was obliterated that to this day in this country there are still very few rugs now, if at all manufactured with use of hemp from the United States.
In the 20 years I've been doing this work this is the only one I've ever seen from the 19th century and the only one I will probably ever restore because the only other ones I've ever known are few and far between and in museums. Its appraised value may be anywhere from 25 to $100,000.

Hand sewn Rug hanger
Example: Picture of a Turkish hand made Kilim with a 4 ft hand sewn hanger approximately 1 - 2 inches from the top of the rug.
Measurements of kilim: 4'x2'.5
Hanger Charge $25 per foot.
This is that something that is very popular in Europe with rugs seeing more as a piece of artwork hanging on a wall.
A 1-2 inch sleeve is sewn by hand and then anchored properly into your rugs foundation so that it is not seen from the front view once it is hung depending on the decor and size of the rug, A 1 2 - inch hanging rod is required. I have also done this for tapestries.
I make this suggestion to utilize a hanger that is hand-sewn to the back of your rug to clients whom have a small collectible handmade antique, expensive, silk, and family heirlooms. This helps to the rug to last in perfect condition last forever and no longer worry about any damage issues. As in tears from use, wear from the traffic of feet and animal related issues to the condition of thier collectible rugs.
